Understanding estimated sales

3 min read

The estimated number of sales indicates how many units of a product have been sold in 30 days. More telling than revenue for comparing products at different price points.

Diagram — Understanding estimated sales
1

Less than 100 sales/month

Product in testing phase or very narrow niche. To monitor, not to copy.

2

500-2000 sales/month

Validated product. Ideal for entering now if you have a differentiating angle.

3

+5000 sales/month

Mature product. Strong competition, crushed margins. Avoid unless you have a clear advantage.

Calculation method

Based on the Shopify stock counter (publicly visible on most stores) + stock variations detected by scraping.

Useful thresholds

Here's how to interpret volumes.

+5000 sales/month

Combine with duration

5000 sales in 30 days on a product launched 3 months ago = explosion currently. On a product launched 2 years ago = saturation.
